NEW FACES

(Comedy | Musical)
[1 hour 39 minutes]

A filmed performance (in CinemaScope) of the highly popular Broadway
hit that was basically a collection of skits, sketches, songs and dances
built around a flimsy plot to meld them all together which, for the most
part, worked. The plot involves a performer/producer (Ronny Graham) who
finds himself in financial difficulties on the eve of opening night because
a big check is needed before the curtain can go up. But a wealthy Texan says
he will put up the money, if his daughter is in the show and he can see it
first. End of plot, but the beginning of the careers of some young and talented
people who have had careers across many decades. Eartha Kitt sings four songs,
including "C'est si bon" (music by Henri Betti, lyrics by André Hornez) and
"Santa Baby" in and around some funny skits; "Trip of the Month", "Snake Charmer",
"Crazy Man" and "Oedipus Goes South." Graham and Mel Brooks (in his Melvin Brooks
days) are credited with most of the sketch material and just the title of the
"Oedipus" bit suggests Brooks. There is a burlesque of "Death of a Salesman",
which was probably the easiest to write of all. It also appears that when Brooks
later did "The Producers", he hadn't forgotten everything about "New Faces".

RIVER OF NO RETURN

(Action | Adventure | Drama | Music | Romance | Western)
[1 hour 31 minutes]

Matt Calder, who lives on a remote farm with his young son Mark, helps two unexpected
visitors who lose control of their raft on the nearby river. Harry Weston is a gambler
by profession and he is racing to the nearest town to register a mining claim he has
won in a poker game. His attractive wife Kay, a former saloon hall girl, is with him.
When Calder refuses to let Weston have his only rifle and horse, he simply takes them
leaving his wife behind. Unable to defend themselves against a likely Indian attack,
Calder, his son and Kay Weston begin the treacherous journey down the river on the
raft Weston left behind.

Pretty Wally Cook, a reporter for the New York Chronicle convinces her editor to
let her do a series of articles on Homer Flagg, a young man from New Mexico who
is believed to be dying as a result of radioactive poisoning. Before she arrives
out west, Homer learns from his doctor that the diagnosis was a mistake and he's
perfectly healthy. That doesn't stop them from accepting Wally's offer of an
all- expenses paid trip to New York. Everyone in New York takes pity on Homer,
while Homer and his doctor try to keep up their pretense.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS

(Comedy | Drama | Musical | Romance | Western)
[1 hour 42 minutes]

Adam, the eldest of seven brothers, goes to town to get a wife. He convinces Milly
to marry him that same day. They return to his backwoods home. Only then does she
discover he has six brothers - all living in his cabin. Milly sets out to reform
the uncouth siblings, who are anxious to get wives of their own. Then, after
reading about the Roman capture of the Sabine women, Adam develops an inspired
solution to his brothers' loneliness.

Brigadoon
BRIGADOON

(Fantasy | Musical | Romance)
[1 hour 48 minutes]

Americans Tommy Albright and Jeff Douglas, on a hunting vacation in Scotland,
discover a quaint and beautiful village, Brigadoon. Strangely, the village is
not on any map, and soon Tommy and Jeff find out why: Brigadoon is an enchanted
place. It appears once every hundred years for one day, then disappears back
into the mists of time, to wake up to its next day a century hence. When Tommy
falls in love with Fiona, a girl of the village, he realizes that she can never
be part of his life back in America. Can he be part of hers in Brigadoon?

Lady in the Dark
LADY IN THE DARK

(Musical | TV Movie)
[1 hour 25 minutes]

Fashion magazine executive becomes unable to make decisions both at work
and in her personal life. She skeptically seeks psychological help,
where she recalls her musical dreams featuring people in her
life, past and present.
#########
Lady in the Dark is a musical with music by Kurt Weill, and lyrics by
Ira Gershwin. It was produced by Sam Harris. The protagonist, Liza Elliott,
is the unhappy female editor of a fashion magazine, Allure, who is
undergoing psychoanalysis. The musical ran on Broadway in 1941, in the
United Kingdom in 1981, and was also made into a 1944 film and this 1954
television special. The musical was broadcast on NBC Television on
September 25, 1954, as part of an intermittent series under the umbrella
title Max Liebman Presents. Ann Sothern played Liza, and Carleton Carpenter
played Russell. The musical's theme of psychoanalysis is said to be based
on the author Moss Hart's own experiences with psychoanalyst Gregory Zilboorg.
Except for the final song, all the music in the play is heard in three
extended dream sequences: the Glamour Dream, the Wedding Dream, and the
Circus Dream which, to some extent, become three small operettas integrated
into a straight play. The final song, "My Ship", functions as a leitmotif
for Liza's insecurity: as each dream commences, a snippet of the tune is
heard, as it is a haunting melody which Liza recognizes but cannot name,
or sing with words, until her anxiety is resolved.

(Musical | TV Special)
[1 hour 30 minutes]

A special, live, television adaptation of Victor Herbert's operetta.

A young girl becomes lost in a department store during the Christmas
shopping rush. The frightened child is comforted by a department
store Santa Claus who tells her a tale of storybook characters
brought to life - of Tommy Tucker's love for the lovely Jane Piper
and the cold-hearted villainy of evil Silas Barnaby. Through the
girl's dreams, the viewer is transported to Toyland.
